Community Kitchen of Northeast Connecticut
This nonprofit organization provides daily lunches at five churches. Here in Danielson, we (Danielson United Methodist Church) provide the space and kitchen needed to serve well over 50 people each Wednesday. Home made soup followed by a small salad and full coarse meal is cooked with nutrition in mind, oh AND dessert! No one is turned away and there is also take out available. People are welcome to come at 9:00am for bagels, pastries and coffee, lunch is served at 12:00pm.
Teddy bears sit in the pews at Danielson UMC. Each teddy bear has a tag that reads “This very special bear, who has worshiped and prayed with us, comes to you with our love. May you feel God’s presence and comfort at this time in your life.” The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying, I have loved you with an everlasting kindness. Jeremiah 31:3.
These teddy bears may be taken to someone in need of a sign of God’s love and comfort. The bears are gracefully replaced with new bears by the congregation as the need arises.
Every child has a story. For 2.7 million American children, that story is filled with the abandonment, loneliness and shame that come from having a mom or dad in prison. For many, it may also include following their parents down the same destructive road to incarceration.
Angel Tree, a program of Prison Fellowship, reaches out to the children of inmates and their families with the love of Christ. At Danielson UMC we have participated in this unique program for many years. It gives us an opportunity to share Christ’s love by helping to meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of the families of prisoners within our own community.
We have a card ministry for our parishioners and also a prayer chain for those in need.
The Outreach and Mission committee are the hands and feet that bring help and justice to those who are hurting. We meet a few times a year to work through issues current in our community.
